A Feline’s Long Wait at the Shelter Ends When the Perfect Family Finally Finds Him, Bringing Joy to His Heart

Luka, a charming tuxedo cat with a distinctive exclamation mark on his nose, spent nearly a year at the Exploits Valley SPCA before finding his forever home with the perfect family. He arrived at the shelter when he was just seven months old and quickly won over the staff with his friendly and affectionate nature. Luka enjoyed playing and snuggling with the other cats at the shelter, always seeking love and companionship.

According to the SPCA, Luka is truly a one-of-a-kind cat who craves affection and enjoys giving it in return. He is known for his constant cuddling and head-butting with his feline roommates, earning him the title of one of the best cats on the planet Earth. Now that he has found a loving family to call his own, Luka couldn’t be happier.

After almost a year with minimal attention, shelter employees persisted in sharing posts about Luka on various social media platforms, in the hopes of attracting the perfect family for him. Despite common misconceptions, it is not just black cats that are the most challenging to place in homes, but black and white cats as well.
At one and a half years old, Luka had built friendships with many newcomers at the shelter and witnessed others being adopted into their forever homes.

“Every now and then, cats spend a long time in shelters without any clear reason why. Then suddenly, the perfect home comes along, and everything falls into place. That was definitely the case for this particular guy.”

After waiting for over 330 days, an application for Luka finally arrived, and it felt like striking gold at the end of a rainbow.

Luka, along with his fellow feline roommates, had been patiently biding his time at the Exploits Valley SPCA.

“He’s such a sweet cat, and we couldn’t understand why he kept getting overlooked. But now, it seems like he was just waiting for Paula.”

Just under two years ago, Paula experienced the loss of her beloved cats of 15 years. She was devastated and made a promise to never have cats again. However, six months later, while making a donation at a local rescue, she met a stunning calico cat named Chole who captured her heart.

“I’ve had Chole for a little over a year now, but I always had a feeling that there was another furry baby out there who needed a loving mom,” Paula revealed.

Paula had been following the SPCA on social media, admiring the pictures and stories of their rescued animals. “But when I saw Luka’s face, my heart skipped a beat. I just knew he was meant to be part of my family.”

It was truly a case of love at first sight at the Exploits Valley SPCA.

During their first meeting, Paula cradled Luka in her arms, and he cuddled up to her right away, as if they were long-lost pals. β€œIt was love at first sight.”
Once settled into his new abode with Paula and Chole, Luka took on the role of kitchen sleuth, inspecting his mom’s culinary creations without fail.
Whenever the fridge door swings open, Luka darts over like a seasoned detective, eager to examine its treasures.
Chole wasn’t initially thrilled about the new addition, but Luka was smitten with her. He made it his mission to win her over, darting around the room solo as she observed, hoping to engage her in fun and games.
“He’s on a mission to make Chole his buddy. He’s relentless.”
Following Chole everywhere, even onto the countertops and couch, Luka gave her space and patiently waited for her approval.
After numerous attempts to charm her, one day Luka hopped onto the couch to snuggle up next to her and even gave her a grooming session. “I never thought Chole would let him clean her, but she did – until he decided to go ninja on her.”

Luka has finally found his favorite spot for nap time – curled up on Paula’s lap. After patiently waiting at the shelter for almost a year, he is now living the perfect life he always dreamed of. Luka enjoys playing and cuddling with his new mom, Paula.

The SPCA shared, “This just goes to show that we should never give up on these cats. ‘Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.'” Luka is now happy and feels loved in his new home with Paula.
