Tillie and Phoebe are inseparable buddies that make an amazing duo. They are the epitome of true friendship and always look out for each other. Lately, Tillie has been hailed as a hero for her remarkable devotion to Phoebe. The two furry friends went wandering off one day, but things took a nasty turn when Phoebe slipped and fell into a cistern. Undeterred, Tillie remained by her side, keeping a watchful eye on her friend for an entire week until they were ultimately rescued by their owner and a team of brave rescuers.
In September, Tillie and Phoebe, two best friends who lived together, disappeared while taking a stroll on Vashon Island. Their worried owner became increasingly concerned when the pups didn’t return home that evening. After some time had passed, Vashon Island Pet Protectors were contacted for assistance. Tillie always keeps the gate closed, however, Phoebe would accompany her to guarantee her safety whenever she sniffs something interesting. Despite volunteers combing the entire island, they were unable to locate the dogs, and Tillie and Phoebe are still unaccounted for.
Carey, a passionate volunteer at Vanish Island, shared that they spent a whole week trying to find Tillie. Thankfully, a farmer tipped them off about a ginger-colored dog he saw on his property. The dog was quiet and seemed to be on a mission, walking towards a ravine nearby. With curiosity piqued, Carey followed and discovered that Tillie had been attempting to get help all along. Unfortunately, her friend Phoebe had fallen into a cistern and couldn’t get out.
Carey shared that when she arrived at the location and looked down, Tillie did not run towards her. Instead, Tillie stayed near the cistern’s edge, keeping her head as close to it as possible. Carey believes that if Tillie had run towards her, they would not have discovered Phoebe. Tillie demonstrated a genuine act of kindness and loyalty towards her furry friend by remaining on site and guiding Carey towards Phoebe. This scene was so emotional that Carey was moved to tears. Tillie realized that it was her responsibility to rescue her friend. If she had gone back home, Phoebe may have remained trapped in the cistern forever.
By a stroke of luck, the two canines were able to survive for a whole week in the wilderness without any harm. It was surprising to see how healthy they looked despite not having enough to eat. However, a blessing in disguise came in the form of rainfall, which quenched their thirst. They were able to hold on until help arrived. The moment their owner spotted them again, she broke down in tears of happiness, but anyone who knows the bond between dogs and humans would have expected nothing less. We are grateful that they were found safe and unharmed.
