The start of life isn’t always easy for our feline friends, and unfortunately, many of them don’t get the happy ending they deserve. In Washington State, a tuxedo cat named Rascal Wild had a rough start to life. He was a stray picked up near a busy street and had trouble finding a forever home due to his rambunctious behavior. According to his owners, the area where he was rescued was not suitable for a cat, with multiple lanes of busy traffic, a cemetery, and train tracks. Perhaps he was dumped because he was a wild big boy instead of a cute cuddly kitten. Being un-neutered, he may have been looking for love in all the wrong places, and his parents didn’t know how to find him. When he arrived at the shelter, they described him as feisty, mischievous, off the walls active, and always getting into trouble because he hadn’t been taught that hands are not toys. This just goes to show that Rascal Wild didn’t have an easy time, and the place where he was found was definitely not a safe spot for a cat.
Luckily, when Jim and Cerise heard about the cat’s story, they were enthusiastic and willing to provide him with a home. It didn’t matter to them that he wasn’t particularly affectionate or enjoyed cuddling. They felt an immediate connection with him after seeing his photo and hearing about his journey. As the saying goes, the rest is now history!
The owners of a remarkably attractive cat created a social media account for him, and it has now amassed over 30,000 followers who are thrilled with his content! According to his bio, he is a charming feline from Seattle who uses his belly to attract humans. He is also the big brother to a cat named Poly Dumplings.
I had the pleasure of chatting with the owners of Rascal, a mischievous feline with a talent for pranks. They graciously answered my questions, providing me with plenty of insight into this lively cat’s personality. They revealed that Rascal has earned the nickname “it’s a trap” for his sneaky tactics, such as pretending to want a belly rub only to surprise attack you. In other words, he’s quite the expert at trapping unsuspecting humans with his irresistible charm.
Can you share how Rascal transformed after moving in with you? When he was discovered, he was a roaming un-neutered male cat and the shelter guessed he was about 2 years old, although his actual age remains uncertain. Currently, he is a calm seven-year-old feline who has noticeably mellowed out during the five years that he has lived with us.
It seems like the name “Rascal” suits him perfectly. What was his name originally when you adopted him? And how did you decide on the name “Rascal” for him? “Rascal was just a temporary name we gave him, but it ended up fitting him so well because he’s such a little troublemaker! We didn’t even have to think twice about keeping it.” (Shown on Rascal’s kennel card.)
How does he interact with his feline siblings? According to 14-year-old Jinxy, they have a respectful standoff, although she secretly loves them all and would love to be their best friend. In photos, he is seen hanging out with his cat mate and begging for chicken. His 2-year-old sibling, @poly_dumplings, reveals that they adopted the kittens and took slow introductions because they were afraid of how he would react. He growled and hissed at them from across the room, and it took six weeks before they met face to face. Now, they are excellent friends who groom each other and play rough-and-tumble games. Gyoza is his personal playmate, while tiny eight-pound Gnocchi chases him around. The family couldn’t have asked for a better fit, and they all look great together!
Is there anything interesting that you would like people to know about him? Despite his initial mistrust towards humans, once he trusts you, his love knows no bounds. He also has a soft and sweet side that balances out his wild nature, which is accompanied by a loud and comforting purr.
According to popular belief, tuxedo cats have quite the personality. On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate Rascal’s cattitude? Personally, I’d give him a solid 12! When we first brought him home, he was full of energy and loved to playfully attack us. However, these days he prefers being pampered with a good brushing and some gentle petting. Of course, like any cat, he has his limits and can become overstimulated. If he’s feeling overwhelmed, he’ll give us a little nip to let us know he needs some space and alone time.
Rascal appears to be a huge cat because he really is! He weighs around 20 pounds, which is not surprising since many tuxedo cats tend to be big and powerful. If you’re a fan of Rascal’s crazy cat behavior just like I am, follow his daily antics on Instagram. In this picture, he is trying to trick his owners into giving him a belly rub, but they are aware of his sharp claws. (I find it funny that my tuxedo cat does the same thing!)
If you know someone who adores tuxedo cats, be sure to tell them about Rascal’s story! I want to extend a special “thank you” to Jim and Cerise, Rascal’s owners, for allowing me to share his tale with everyone. I hope you enjoyed it and fell in love with Rascal just as much as I did. Also, make sure to check out his feline housemates, the Poly Dumplings or Gyoza Gnocchi, if you have a soft spot for adorable polydactyl kitties. You can find more information on paws-daily.com.
